Dmytro Choni was born in Kiev (Ukraine) in 1993, and received his first piano lessons from Galina Zaslavets at the age of four. Later he went on to study in Kiev with Nina Naiditch and Professor Yuri Kot. He is currently studying with Professor Milana Chernyavska at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz. The young pianist also receives a scholarship from the International Academy of Music in Liechtenstein, and regularly participates in the intensive music weeks held there. He has attended masterclasses held by renowned professors, such as Sergei Babayan, Klaus Hellwig, Yakov Kasman, Gabriel Kwok and Oxana Yablonskaya.
Dmytro Choni has won prizes at numerous national and international music competitions. He won the 2nd prize at the “V. International Competition for Young Pianists in Memory of Vladimir Horowitz” in the “Horowitz-Debut” category in Ukraine (2002), the 1st prize at the “VII International Alemdar Karamanov Piano Competition” in Crimea (2009), the 1st prize and the Grand Prix at the “I Concours International de Piano – Ville de Gagny” in France (2013), the 1st prize at the “III Ukrainian National Piano Competition – C. Bechstein Award” (2015), the 1stprize at the “I International Piano Competition Tucumán” in Argentina (2016), the 2nd prize at the “VII San Marino Piano Competition” (2016), the 1st prize at the 20th International “Stefano Marizza” Piano Competition in Italy (2016), the 1st prize at the 2nd International Piano Competition “Tribute to Jurica Murai” in Croatia (2016) and the 2nd prize (the 1st prize was not awarded) at the “19th Concours International de Musique Jean Françaix” in France (2016).
The young pianist has already given a considerable number of solo recitals and chamber music concerts, and performs regularly as a soloist with renowned orchestras, such as the Republic of San Marino Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Francesco Ommassini, the Ukraine National Symphony Orchestra under Volodymyr Sirenko, the Tambov Philharmonic Orchestra under Mikhail Leontyev, the Rivne Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra and the Collegium Musicum Chamber Orchestra Lviv under the baton of Ivan Ostapovych. Dmytro Choni has performed at the “Kissinger Sommer” in Germany, the FESTIVAL NEXT GENERATION Bad Ragaz in Switzerland, at Harmonie Starego Miasta in Poland and at the international Festival Kyiv Summer Music Evenings in Ukraine. He was also invited to perform a solo recital at the renowned “Kissinger KlavierOlymp”.
Chamber music also forms an important part of Dmytro Choi’s musical activities. He has performed at chamber music festivals such as Colluvio in Austria and Zeist Music Days – international chamber music festival & masterclasses in the Netherlands, where he profited from musical input from renowned musicians such as Marc Danel and members of the Jerusalem Quartet.
